Cecret Souls "River Witch" Live @ Rigby Road

This song tells the story of our experience with the ghost of Moab, UT known as, "The River Witch." Look it up... she is real... or at very least a real myth. Our story, legend you might insist, is about a Blue Moon Halloween night when we partied in the red rocks of Moab. All was fun as we marauded through the mines until... someone in our party went missing. We spent the rest of the night searching for this oddly missing person. With a Toledo sword in our defense we returned to the mine where we left him to find nothing. The next morning all we found when returning to the mine was this person's clothes... Hours later they showed up back at camp having been saved by other campers when they walked off naked into the red desert following what they later described as the positive calls of a voice echoing through the canyons. We believe that our intent and it's energy put us in a dimension in which this person was not taken by The River Witch. Other think we are nuts and that all of this was unnecessary. Maybe & likely so... but we know the dark force we felt and confronted that night. We wrote this song shortly after and have thought about that night a lot. The lore of The River Witch explains that she drowned her kids and then herself in the Colorado River, which flows through Moab. However, in thinking about her and feeling her constant presence from having dealt with her that night I think something different may have happened. Maybe it was her partner that killed the children and her and got away from it. It just feels like she was trying to say something to us. So, this song has become somewhat of an exorcism or a break in the chain for her, The River Witch. Recently, we returned to the site of the missing person to play the song at Desert Reverie; an amazing DIY festival. We can only hope that our creative offering has satiated her, The River Witch.
